Begin Noticing
You do not need to understand everything first.
You only need to notice.
Begin the exercise
Let’s Notice.
Before you continue…
Slow down.
Notice what is happening right now.
Not around you.
Within you.
Your breathing.
Your thoughts.
Your attention.
Your emotional state.
Your body.
Just observe.
No fixing.
No planning.
No judging.
Just noticing…
Guided Noticing
What Did You Notice?
There is no right answer.
Some people notice their thoughts.
Some notice their emotions.
Some notice tension in their body.
Some notice how difficult it is to remain present.
Others notice nothing in particular at all.
And that is okay.
The purpose of this exercise was not to achieve a specific result.
It was to create awareness.
To slow down long enough to observe what is already happening within you.
Because before something becomes clear…
it often first becomes visible.
I want to share something with you.
Message from DaMan
What Does It Mean to Notice?
Noticing is the act of observing what is happening within your own experience.
It is the moment you become aware of something that was already there.
A thought.
An emotion.
A reaction.
An impulse.
A sensation.
A pattern.
Most of these things are happening throughout the day whether we are aware of them or not.
Noticing is simply the moment they become visible.
During the exercise, you may have noticed your breathing, your thoughts, your emotions, or your attention.
Whatever you noticed is less important than the fact that you noticed.
Because awareness begins when something becomes visible.
The Moment Before a Decision
Much of life happens automatically.
A thought appears.
An emotion follows.
A reaction occurs.
And before we realize it, we have already responded.
This process happens thousands of times throughout our lives.
Sometimes in small ways.
Sometimes in ways that shape our relationships, our opportunities, and our future.
Without awareness, the process often looks like this:
Thought → Emotion → Reaction.
But when noticing begins, something changes.
You begin to see the process while it is happening.
You notice the thought.
You notice the emotion.
You notice the urge to react.
And for the first time, you become aware of the moment before the reaction.
That moment is important.
Because it is where choice becomes possible.
Not Control.
Not Force.
Choice.
The ability to pause.
To consider.
To respond intentionally rather than automatically.
The direction of your life is shaped not only by what happens to you, but by the decisions you make in these moments.
That is why noticing matters.
Because noticing creates awareness.
Awareness creates clarity.
And clarity makes intentional decision-making possible.
Every meaningful change begins with seeing what is there.
And seeing begins with noticing.
Others Have Noticed This Too
Throughout history, philosophers, psychologists, spiritual teachers, and scientists have emphasized the importance of observation and self-awareness.
Viktor Frankl
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.”
Carl Jung
“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
Socrates
“The unexamined life is not worth living.”
Aristotle
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
Different traditions use different language.
Awareness.
Observation.
Reflection.
Self-examination.
But many point toward a similar idea:
Before we can understand ourselves, we must first learn to notice.
It is a skill that develops through practice.
